Dangerous effetcs of Global Warming

Global warming effects have occurred in many parts of the world. More frequent disaster such as storm and flood, drought, and the decrease of agricultural yields are just some examples of it. The news is getting worse when Drew Shindell, at NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, New York stated that methane has more global warming effect when combined with aerosols. He ran a range of computerized models to prove it.

Aerosols can be defined as a suspension of fine solid particles or liquid droplets in a gas. Aerosols are generated naturally from volcanoes, dust storms, forest and grassland fires, living vegetation, and sea spray. Ten percent of the aerosols are generated by human activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels. In the atmosphere it refers to atmospheric particles such as dust, sea salt, sulphates, smoke and black carbon.

Methane is creating global warming effect 25 times more than carbon dioxide, this statement is supported by The International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and treaties such as Kyoto Protocol. It means that with the same volume, methane is able to warm this planet 25 times more than carbon dioxide. The condition is worse when aerosols are also present in the atmosphere. The relative global warming potential (GWP) of methane is significantly increased to 33. It means that the actual effect of global warming is worse than calculated before. We miss one important fact here, that the mixture between aerosols and methane will increase the global warming effect.

What is Global Warming Myth ?

Politicians and other individuals find it all too easy to dismiss the "global warming myth," citing that it is all just doomsday rubbish concocted by crazy loons. First of all, these 'crazy loons' are experts in climate change; who dedicate their entire lives to studying our planet and where it's going in the near future.

Second, this 'doomsday rubbish' is not rubbish: it is happening today. More than 2,500 researchers who plan to attend 2009's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in Copenhagen will assess the situation. And they will be presented with the inevitability that water levels may rise as much as 100m in the near future, a 75% loss of tree cover, and millions (if not billions) will be displaced by the changes in climate. All this leads to one conclusion: we are in serious trouble.

If a convention of such size and with conclusions so resounding does not catch the attention of the world, then no amount of global warming proof will convince otherwise, unless we experience the results for ourselves. But the responsibility does not fall solely on governments and corporations. We have a role to play in keeping our environment safe and habitable. Here are two simple things we, as normal people living our normal, every-day lives, can do to help:

Waste Management - from merely reducing our needs to meet our needs to sorting trash and bringing empty cans to the recycling center, this is the first and easiest step we can take to help ease the burden on our environment.

Are there Disastrous Consequences of Global Warming ?

Scientists pretty much all agree on global warming today, but what are the health aspects?

Clearly one is heat stroke. Did you know that close to 700 people a year die from heatstroke in the US alone?

Also, some insects thrive with increased temperatures, so the incidence of insect borne diseases like Lyme disease (tick borne) and viral encephalitis (mosquito borne) may increase. I know local people who had both recently, whereas they were virtually unknown just a few years ago. Other insect borne diseases that may rise include West Nile virus, dengue fever, and Ehrlichiosis. Also tropical diseases may spread to the temperate zone, such as malaria and yellow fever. It is not as far fetched as it may seem.

The ongoing depletion of the ozone layer causes increased exposure to UVB radiation which can contribute to skin cancer, cataracts and more. Skin cancer is a major killer and its incidence has been going up. There has also been a 400% increase in asthma since 1980, in part due to emissions from burning rainforests and more.

The rising sea levels can have major impacts on health as well, ranging from millions of people being displaced and the resultant problems, to disruptions in food production, fresh water availability, and sanitation. These factors can have global effects even far from the oceans borders.

Global warming is starting to have major effects, and how serious they will be is unknown. They range from science fiction doomsday scenarios, to less catastrophic yet still very serious. One thing is certain, there are health consequences to global warming.

Which Countries have been most Affected by Global Warming ?

A worst case scenario scientific report predicted that we may very well be living on the South Pole in a hundred years. And even though many people find the idea too ridiculous to contemplate there are others that already feel the effects of global warming.

Some of the parts of the world already feeling the effects of climate change are;

Asia. Bangladesh and India have heavily populated low lying land. Rising sea levels and increase in rainfall due to global warming an increasing problem.

Africa. Increasing drought in an already food short continent.

Australia. Hotter conditions are fueling massive bush fires that are occurring more frequently.

Pacific and Indonesia. Recent earthquakes have caused a major disaster in Indonesia and Samoa is still mourning the after effects of a tsunami, as a result of an offshore earthquake. Rising sea levels also threaten some islands in the pacific. Predicted to be completely under water in the future are Kiribati, Tuvalu and Marshall Islands.

Europe. Yearly flooding is now the norm when snow in the alpines melts. Greece and Portugal are regularly experiencing wildfires during summer heat waves.

Latin America. The Amazon, already threatened by encroaching development is also threatened by increasingly dry weather.

North America. Hurricane Katrina is the worst experienced so far due to rising sea levels and a massive storm surge. The threat from hurricanes is now a yearly occurrence. Bush fires in California  have claimed many lives and rising sea levels is also a problem.

What are the Causes, Solutions and Effects of Global Warming ?

Global warming problems are a direct result of the burning of fossil fuels for energy; this allows addition warming of the atmosphere compounding the global warming problems. The exhausting of carbon dioxide gases from the consumption of fossil fuels allows more absorption of heat from direct sunlight and stops the escape of heat back into space this causes the air and water to get warmer, resulting in the faster melting of snow and ice that normally reflects the sunlight back into space therefore compound the global warming problem.

Our homes are a major contributor to the global warming problems, every day we drive to work and use electricity in our home; these are the 2 main carbon producers that households contribute to global warming. We are all 100% dependent on energy for everything we do. It is not practical to expect our civilization to voluntarily return to the Stone Age but if we continue using fossil fuels as our only energy returning to the Stone Age will be an unavoidable fact. Like it or not we are already going down that path and it is happening much sooner and faster than anyone ever expected.

Relying on the big energy companies and governments is not a solution, it is called an excuse that all of us have used to avoid the fact we are all guilty of the global warming problems. We all know the reality; governments are incapable of taking a pro-active approach to anything, as a whole, governments are totally useless at setting policies for the future benefit of societies and are in fact the most inefficient spenders of our tax dollar.

Big business is interested in only money and control. How honest is big business and government? Here is an example - in 1950 the cigarette companies and governments became aware that smoking was a major cause of death and nicotine was addictive. They suppressed this information from the public and continued to aggressively marketing smoking. Governments finally started to take action in the mid-1970s by using your tax dollar to advertise the effects of smoking. After the huge amount of pressure applied by the public the government had no choice but to prosecute a cigarette company; this resulted in a conviction in the late 1990s and a huge fine. Looks good right? So all the other cigarette companies threw money into the pot, helped pay off the fine and everyone is happy and business as usual. This is only one example of many regarding the honestly and integrity of big business and governments to us the general public. No need to talk about Banks or Wall Street we all can figure this one out. Big energy companies have known for a long time the long term impacts of carbon dioxide gases. The energy industry is much bigger and by far more powerful than a small cigarette company. Do you really feel comfortable putting your trust in big business and governments?

How to get rid of Global Warming

Because of the continued use of industrial technology, the world more and more wonders, "Where on earth are we going to be in the near future environmentally?" More people would admit that they are very worried, if one were to ask how they felt about the current state of the environment. There are a number of primary causes and effects that the general public should be aware about regarding some key issues. Global warming is at the top of this list of concerns and one must acknowledge what strategies various agencies have in place and educate the general public on how they can eventually make the world a better place.

With the world's increased use of emissions, coupled with a current state of anti-terrorism, there are a number of treaties that have been erected that will hope to resolve environmental conflicts before they start. The Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty was erected to prohibit the testing of nuclear weapons in all environments. Another strategy is the Kyoto Protocol, which is an internationally set forth agreement which sets limits on emissions of greenhouse gases from industrial countries. Participating countries agree to only emit a certain amount of carbon. If a country can't afford to meet this limit, they can buy credits from a country that has produced less than the agreed amount.

Negative Effects of Global Warming on Society

The negative effects of global warming have now become a matter of concern for governments all around the world. It is predicted that rise in the planet's temperature will continue and get much worse in the future if stringent steps are not taken to stop it right from now.Global warming may have disastrous results in the future as the glaciers may melt down thereby making the levels of the oceans to rise. If this is not checked, then it would lead to floods and cities along the coasts will be the worst affected. Whole cities would get submerged under the seas in the next 30 years. Research by the climatic organizations suggests that the effects of this warming are irreversible.

This steady rise in overall temperature has also led to Arctic shrinkage as well as changes in the seasonal patterns. As a result, climatic changes are leading to irreversible effects at global and continental levels. And, the worst part is that these effects are increasing day by day. There have also been large reductions in the West Antarctic and the Greenland ice sheets.

Even the animals in these regions are becoming extinct as they are left with less space to live in. The emission of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is trapping poisonous gases which are not allowing the sun's heat to escape from the atmosphere. Hence, the average global temperature has also increased in the last few years. There have bee the economy of many countries very badly.n adverse changes in the rainfall as well.
